trash panda
trashpanda.mx ↗a countertop composter that turns food scraps into real compost in 14 days — not dehydrated, ground-up leftovers.
real composting works, but it asks for constant work: turning the pile over and over to keep it aerated, and living with the mess. most countertop machines dodge all of that by drying and grinding the scraps instead — what comes out is not compost.
a bin with a paddle shaft that mixes and aerates on automatic cycles, so the hard part of composting happens on its own. the shaft is belt-driven from a motor mounted under the chamber, in the same bay as the electronics, and a magnetic switch on the lid cuts the motor the moment the lid opens. it ships with an activator mix that inoculates the scraps so they break down faster — a small pouch the user adds each time they feed it. scraps go in chopped, with scissors for now; grinding them automatically is a later version.
the first prototype is entirely 3D printed except for fasteners, electronics and bearings — shaft and paddles included. in production those two should be machined stainless steel.
the prototype has produced real compost in 14 days and runs on its own with minimal supervision. next is the drivetrain: a belt tensioned to spec with machined metal pulleys, and the shaft and paddles in stainless.
